The Jewelry Inspiration Behind Milamore Collections

Milamore was founded in 2019 by George Inaki Root, who uses his Spanish-Filipino and Japanese heritage to draw inspiration in his work while breaking old traditions in favor of looking toward the future and establishing a new standard.

Origin of Milamore

Milamore is a combination of two words: Milagros, his grandmother's name, and also the Spanish word for "miracle," and "amore," meaning "love" in Italian. Formed by the bond with his grandmother and inspiration of his heritage, George continues to push the boundaries with inspired androgynous aesthetics that turn classics on their head in delightful and unexpected ways.

George has created a timeless and forward-thinking line. Each piece is designed in New York and handcrafted in Japan near the foothill of the iconic Mount Fuji, using traditional techniques that have been passed down through generations of the Higasa family. With the intention of paying tribute to tradition and also introducing something new to the world of jewelry, Milamore is constantly evolving and blurring the lines between genders, cultures, and societal norms.

Generation-Spanning Designs

George uses the Japanese ideal of 'Omotenashi' as the foundation of their work, the idea of a wholehearted approach to hospitality that shows in the consideration, attention to detail, and thoughtful design that goes into each of these unique pieces of wearable art. When you wear a Milamore piece, it's as if you are wearing the stories and lore that run deep in Japanese culture. The multinational, multigenerational inspiration and sentiment that shine through in these gorgeous, modern designs are unmistakable, even to the untrained eye.

Inclusivity is a core tenet of the Milamore brand, as is apparent by the gender-neutral designs of each piece produced by the team of Japanese craftspeople. Anyone can wear a piece of Milamore with pride and can take part in George's vision of gender-neutral, fluid design that returns the focus to the wearer, not the societal norms or expectations that often dictate what people can and cannot wear.

Kintsugi Collection

Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold lacquer, and the philosophy behind it is that the breakage and repair are part of the history of the object and should be celebrated rather than hidden. This ethos is one that the founder of Milamore embraces wholeheartedly in his work. For him, kintsugi represents the idea that we are all flawed and broken in some way but that these flaws make us who we are and should be embraced rather than hidden.

In a world where perfectionism is often praised and mistakes are seen as shameful, kintsugi offers a refreshing alternative perspective. Rather than seeing breakage and repair as negative, kintsugi sees them as part of the beauty and history of an object. This mindset is one that George brings to his work at Milamore, where he celebrates the uniqueness of each individual by creating gender-neutral designs that break away from traditional norms.

Another favorite here at The Loupe is the Kintsugi Victoria Float Pave necklace, featuring 18K gold and embellished with .79cts of diamonds. As with the hoop earrings above, this piece celebrates perfection in the imperfect with remarkable attention to detail by a master craftsperson in Japan.

Braille Collection

We're all familiar with jewelry that features words or sayings, but Milamore has reimagined this typical motif by incorporating Braille into the designs. The Braille collection features bracelets, rings, and necklaces with uplifting messages written in diamond Braille, making them not only visually stunning but also meaningful and personal.

Diamond "Gratitude" Bracelet

The 'Gratitude' bracelet is a great example of the beauty and sentiment of this collection. It features .14cts of diamonds embedded in 18kt yellow and white gold, reminding the wearer of the importance of gratitude throughout challenges they may face. This bracelet is as eye-catching worn alone as it is stacked with other bracelets from the Braille collection. As with all other pieces from the Braille collection, the English translation of the word is on the inside of the item.

Diamond "Manifest/Vision" Earrings

These gorgeous earrings are made with 18kt yellow gold and feature .12cts of diamonds that read "Manifest / Vision" in Braille. Equally fitting on the red carpet or on a casual evening out with friends, the wearer will radiate positivity and confidence as the sun glitters across these empowering words. Inside each earring is the English translation of each word.

Duo Chain collection

The perfect example of Milamore's gender-fluid style is the Duo Chain collection, marrying the delicate and the bold with a combination of chains that are distinct on their own but truly unique when joined. Milamore took inspiration from antique pocket watches for this line of unique jewelry, and we're certain that you'll be satisfied by adding a Duo Chain to your own collection.

Classic Duo Chain III

The Duo Chain III features a mini Cuban chain of 18k yellow gold and mini rolo chain of 18k white gold. This combination of colors adds dimension to an already-notable piece, and the chains are joined with a clasp featuring the MILAMORE monogram. The clasp is designed to be worn as a pendant, fits seamlessly with an added charm, and is further elevated when layered with other Duo pieces.

Duo Chain Bracelet I
